Wastewater treatment system based on the application of METland® technologies.

Modular METland®, represents a sustainable (technical, economic and environmental), mobile and efficient solution to clean-up and re-use urban wastewater at zero-energy cost by combining fascinating microorganisms capable of converting pollutants into electrical current. This is especially critical for micropollutants like pharmaceuticals and personal care products (pcp) that are just partially degraded in standard treatments but 95% removed through METland®. Moreover, our product reduces by 10 to 30-fold the footprint (depending on application). It fulfils GREEN DEAL policies related with CO2 footprint and energy consumption to help EU states reach climate neutrality in water sector.Interestingly, its modular nature allows to follow a 3D lego-like engineering to replicate and satisfy customer needs from single housing to small communities hosting thousands of people. METland® also addresses Green Deal policy by saving energy and complies with CO2 footprint.

METland® bridges the identified gap between innovative water solutions and market requirements in the private urban and rural sector. Our system is based on biological degradation of pollutants by a fascinating natural non-pathogenicmicrobial community able to colonize a bed of electrically conductive material. Water is never visible, circulating underneath a layer of electroconductive material so odors are fully absent.Typical wastewater treatment units are hidden facilities due to unpleasant odors or engineering structures that are not nice to see. In contrast, modular METland® includes vegetal species to help remove certain pollutants (nitrate, phosphorous). They are designed to convert a sewage treatment into a gardening scenario where plants dominate the landscape.

MET4home® are one of the two formats in which modular METland® are commercialized.

They are typically (but not limited) 1 m3 modules with capacity for treating wastewater from 4-5 pe (single housing). Units are finished in real wood or in wood-like synthetic material made of recyclable plastic. A legocombination of different modules may treat wastewater from a rural hotel (30 pe). Units can be planted for beautification and nutrients uptake.
