Wastewater treatment system based on the application of METland® technologies.
Modular METland®, represents a sustainable (technical, economic and environmental), mobile and efficient solution to clean-up and re-use urban wastewater at zero-energy cost by combining fascinating microorganisms capable of converting pollutants into electrical current. This is especially critical for micropollutants like pharmaceuticals and personal care products (pcp) that are just partially degraded in standard treatments but 95% removed through METland®. Moreover, our product reduces by 10 to 30-fold the footprint (depending on application). It fulfils GREEN DEAL policies related with CO2 footprint and energy consumption to help EU states reach climate neutrality in water sector.Interestingly, its modular nature allows to follow a 3D lego-like engineering to replicate and satisfy customer needs from single housing to small communities hosting thousands of people. METland® also addresses Green Deal policy by saving energy and complies with CO2 footprint.
METland® bridges the identified gap between innovative water solutions and market requirements in the private urban and rural sector. Our system is based on biological degradation of pollutants by a fascinating natural non-pathogenicmicrobial community able to colonize a bed of electrically conductive material. Water is never visible, circulating underneath a layer of electroconductive material so odors are fully absent.Typical wastewater treatment units are hidden facilities due to unpleasant odors or engineering structures that are not nice to see. In contrast, modular METland® includes vegetal species to help remove certain pollutants (nitrate, phosphorous). They are designed to convert a sewage treatment into a gardening scenario where plants dominate the landscape.
MobiMET®, modular METland® for small communities, are one of the two formats in which modular METland® are commercialized.
They are typically (but not limite) 20 feet modules constructed in polyester and ship-containerized to allow easy transportability overseas or using conventional terrestrial vehicles. In contrast with other classical systems that require civil engineering or legal permits, our modular systems will allow a direct implementation where the customer needs it, saving relevant costs in civil construction. Such mobility will make easier to satisfy end-user-needs all over the world. Any single unit of modular METland® can treat wastewater generated by ca. 100-200 people in a camping site, hotel, or small communities. As the units have been designed to fit inside shipping containers, they can be 3D-grown into larger structures because all ship containers are robust, made-of-steel, and have identical dimensions. Due to our units’ modular design, additional construction is as easy as stacking more units. Thus, we can easily upscale the treatment capacity based on direct replication of the modular unit.
